Is Special Education Tutoring The Answer?

Education is the most important gift you can give your child, and providing this important resource in a way that suits their specific needs can be challenging. Especially when they don’t fit into a system of learning that is stuck in a “one size fits all” approach.

Children with learning disabilities or emotional disorders can struggle in an environment that provides very little of the personal attention and focus that is greatly needed for honest progress in their academic lives.

That is why many parents are turning to special education tutoring as a way to supplement a schooling system that is often unprepared to handle a child with special needs specific learning challenges.

The school setting itself can serve as a hindrance, with the distraction of other students bringing unhealthy competition and peer pressure. Impractical class sizes and a fast-paced environment prohibit one-on-one instruction and allow for children having difficulties to fall behind quickly and, without the help they need, stay behind.

Special Education In Today’s Classroom

ADHD:

Consider this: 4 out of 5 American children have received a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, a condition that often manifests itself as poor impulse control, an inability to sit still for long periods of time and hard time following directions.

These factors mean a child with ADHD learns differently from those who are unaffected by this disorder, as they often require instructions to be repeated multiple times before the child grasps the concept of the lesson being taught.

Social Disorders:

Other children might have a social disorder which prevents them from feeling comfortable in a large classroom setting with other children present, in which case standardized education is going to be a problem when it comes time to learn.

Gigantic Classroom Sizes:

A typical classroom consists of one teacher leading more than 30 students at a time, and when one child is disruptive, it can affect the outcome of the entire lesson plan.

When children have a disability that sets them apart from the rest of their peers, it can take a toll on their self-esteem, as these types of learning disabilities are often not received well by other children and even educators.

It can be frustrating for everyone involved when a child with special needs is forced into a fast-paced learning environment, but the teachers themselves are not to blame.

Lack Of Resources In The Classroom:

Schools often lack the state funding and available resources to offer specialized attention, and this comes at the expense of a child’s valuable education.

Special Education Tutoring and Special Education Resources

The good news is that resources are available for children who struggle in school due to a variety of factors and learning disabilities whether they are;

  • Physical
  • Mental
  • Emotional

Special education tutoring used to focus more on children with mental or physical disabilities, those confined to a wheelchair or with learning disorders.

The term has broadened over the years to encompass a plethora of reasons children with special needs might not learn at the same pace as others, but the stigma remains: to be placed in special education classes makes children seem lower in the social strata and can lead to feelings of hopelessness and failure.

Since this is not the way to go about educating children with special needs, something else has to be done.

The internet has long been the go-to resource for finding information on any topic you can think of, and special education tutoring is no exception. Before this technologically advanced time in our lives began, connecting with other parents and educators of children with special needs was an almost impossible task.

It left the people in charge feeling like they were the only ones in that certain situation, and children were often left in the wake of an educational deficit brought on by lack of understanding.

As more attention has been called to learning disabilities and how children are educated at different paces, solutions have started to crop up when it comes to a child with special needs individualized learning requirements. Identifying the problem is step number one in the educational process; from there, it’s all about finding what works for both the educator and the child.

Think of your schooling and how you were taught the basics of:

  • Math
  • English
  • Science
  • History

Was it difficult for you to grasp certain concepts?

Do you now, as an adult, wish you had someone to walk you through the subjects that were tough?

You may not have been labeled with a learning disability, but it was still hard to understand various teachings. That’s what children with special needs struggle with on a daily basis, and recognizing these issues is the first step in a successful education.

There are a number of resources available today that focus on what a child needs versus what traditional schooling has to offer.

Some children might feel more comfortable learning in their own home instead of being overwhelmed and distracted by other children. Others might be able to function in a regular school setting but need personalized attention outside of the classroom to help boost their abilities.

Luckily, special education tutoring has moved into the online world and can be available at the push of a button, whenever you need it most.

We at Special Education Resource are working hard to remove the label of “difficult” children and focuses solely on an individual child’s specific needs. Harnessing the power of modern technology, we can teach children at their own pace and in a language they understand, regardless of standard schooling practices.

When students are tutored in a one-on-one environment with the help of loving, supportive parents or guardians, behaviors can change for the better while test scores increase along with the level of learning.

The next time your child is having a hard time in school, don’t automatically assume the child is difficult and push for better behavior. Listen closely to their frustrations and seek the special education tutoring they might require. Supplemental learning is key to getting the most from the formative school years, and with the right resources, your child can soar higher than they ever imagined.
